Celebrating 50 Years with a Historical and Innovative Book
Miami, FL - November 20, 2009 - This past October 16th, 2008, Diaz & Cooper joined with St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School to launch its commemorative book, The Little School by the Bay, Celebrating 50 Years. Authored by renowned local historian Dr. Paul George, the book marks the Golden Anniversary of the school, celebrated on the first day of the semester, September 2008.
Recounting the people and circumstances that lead to the opening and success of St. Stephen's, the book is also an important historical work, stringing together the families and traditions that have colored this learning institution, which is one of the oldest and most respected in South Florida.
The Diaz & Cooper Team edited, designed, and produced the book for the celebration, creating a true work of art.
"We knew that we wanted the finished product to reflect our long history, but the Diaz & Cooper team took it a step further. The beautiful design pays homage to the friends and family of days gone by and also highlights our future. The book really illustrates the bright road ahead," explains Lauren Billingslea Dowlen, Director of Development for the school.
In producing the book, the team selected the photography, edited Dr. George's arduous research, and created a design that reflects the school's years of experience as well as its future direction.
In keeping with its tradition of innovation, Diaz & Cooper produced a completely eco-friendly book.
"In looking to the future of our children and in keeping with the philosophies of St. Stephen's, we felt that it was important to convey a message of environmental consciousness as they go forward," says Otmara Diaz-Cooper, President of Diaz & Cooper.
The book was printed by a triple-green certified local facility, using vegetable-based inks, and environmentally friendly certified papers.
This is the second book that Diaz & Cooper has designed, edited, and produced, the first being Historic Landscapes of Florida for The Deering Foundation and University of Miami School of Architecture.

About St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School
St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School, founded in 1958, is the primary outreach program of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. The school was inspired and created by a small group of parishioners who wished for an education apart from what was offered in the area at the time. The school is nestled in the heart of Coconut Grove, and is co-educational for students in preschool through Grade 6. Highly qualified teachers and small classes are the hallmark of this "small school" environment. St. Stephen's strives to provide an environment where a strong partnership between school, church and home creates strong, content and confident leaders of tomorrow with a commitment to social justice, inclusiveness, community outreach and service to others.
