Named after the historic inland region of Southern Norway known for its vast forests and as the birthplace of Telemark skiing, Telemark, WI was once an iconic ski resort. Strategically located in the heart of Northern Wisconsin’s magnificent natural backdrop, featuring hundreds of miles of internationally recognized mountain bike and cross-country ski trails that weave through thick forests adjacent to a national park.
Among the landmarks of Telemark was the original Ski Chalet at the base of Mount Telemark; once the hub of winter activities and the “place to be seen” for cross-country skiers, hikers and mountain bikers. The area was never marketed as a four-season destination and the Ski Chalet was lost to a fire in 1982 and never rebuilt.
But now, a forward thinking group called Telemark Redevelopment, LLC is poised to construct a new 250-room Telemark lodge and hotel, restore and reopen the downhill ski slopes and Chalet, and create an independent corporate training center.
A regional approach to growing business in the area
Telemark Redevelopments’ regional approach to marketing focuses on connecting new visitors to all businesses within the region. This is exactly what is needed for sustainable growth in year-round business in Northern Wisconsin, especially as we come out of these trying times.
The group has announced Diaz & Cooper as their agency to lead the marketing efforts for the massive redevelopment project. “Our marketing partner, Diaz-Cooper, is the perfect firm at the perfect time for the future of our project. Their business motto sums it up perfectly: they transform marketing into an engine of growth” stated Chairman Jim Kelley.
With their expertise in hospitality and travel marketing, Diaz & Cooper is in a unique position to create an advanced system that will trailblaze the tourism message. The strategy will create awareness and make it easy for visitors to actually plan and book their vacation to the Telemark region and all it has to offer.
Even prior to groundbreaking, Diaz & Cooper will assist the Telemark Redevelopment group to create a strategic plan that will build interest and create anticipation in the marketplace for all the Telemark Village and offerings of the surrounding region.
The project has been receiving a large volume of press coverage and has the support of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, the Bayfield County Administrator, the Town of Cable, Central Cross Country Skiing (CXC) and several notable businesses and elected officials in the area.
